Unquiet Presences

Psychological Figuration · Identity · Concealment

Unquiet Presences explores the unstable terrain of identity, where the human figure becomes a vessel for emotions, memories, and experiences that resist articulation. Moving between recognition and abstraction, these paintings inhabit the fragile space between who we are, how we are perceived, and what remains concealed beneath the surface.

Through fragmented faces, distorted bodies, and ambiguous silhouettes, I investigate the tension between visibility and erasure, intimacy and alienation, vulnerability and self-preservation. Saturated colors, abrupt gestures, and shifting forms disrupt conventional portraiture, allowing psychological states to emerge through distortion rather than representation.

In these works, faces become masks, bodies dissolve into their surroundings, and familiar features take on unfamiliar meanings. The figures appear simultaneously exposed and inaccessible, suspended between the desire to be understood and the instinct to remain unknowable.

Rather than offering fixed identities or definitive narratives, Unquiet Presences invites viewers to confront the uncertainty of perception and the complexities of human existence. Each painting becomes an encounter with something both intimate and elusive—a presence that demands recognition while resisting interpretation.
